KNIGHT WOMEN SECOND GVC CHAMPIONSHIPS, MEN FOURTH

REDDING, Calif. – Shasta College's women's cross-country team finished second and the men were fourth at the Golden Valley Conference cross-country championships Friday.

For the women, Grace Southern was third overall out of 23 competitors, finishing the 5K course in 21:33. Adrian Bartlett was eighth (23:05), Ali Sager was 14th (26:29), Savanna Sanderson was 15th (27:21) and Matteya Ruiz was 18th (29:53).

"Our women's team ran amazing and stuck to our plan and placed 2nd overall with a big performance out of Alia Sager who is one of our 100 hurdlers during track season," said Shasta College cross-country coach Taylor Duncan.

Jacob Garrett led the Knight men with a third-place finish, completing the 4-mile course in 21:16. Joseph Williams was 15th (24:00), Dixon Moore was 17th (24:23), Aaron Young was 19th (24:52), Jeshua Wilkinson was 20th (25:11) and Cordell Brock was 21st (25:35).

"On the Men's side we obviously wanted to place higher as a team, but I couldn't be more proud of this group for coming along way this year and see them really start to turn into some good XC runners," Duncan said.

Both Southern and Garrett were named all-conference for the Knights.

"Jacob and Grace earning all-conference was an awesome individual accomplishment and they will both look to try and make a push to qualify for state when competing at Nor Cal's this Friday," Duncan said. "They will both run the 800 come track season, so for them to go out and compete at a high level during cross-country shows their versatility and athleticism."

Shasta College competes at the NorCal Finals at Toro Park in Salinas on Friday with the women's 5K at 10 a.m. followed by the men's 4-mile race at 11 a.m.
