MONTEREY, Calif. – The 19th-seeded Shasta College volleyball team fell to No. 14 Monterey Peninsula in four sets 25-14, 27-29, 25-18, 28-26 in the opening round of the California Community College Athletic Association Northern California Regional Tournament on Nov. 19.
The Knights totaled 14 kills and two hitting errors in the second set to even it up at a set apiece. Shasta nearly forced a fifth set but fell 28-26 despite 10 hitting errors in the fourth set.
Shasta's Presley Hamilton, Emmarae Westphal and Sarah Ault each totaled seven kills to lead the Knights while Macey Bunn added six kills. Kelci Vance chipped in with five kills and six blocking assists. Hamilton's 28 digs paced Shasta while Sarah Peters racked up 25 digs, Brooke Vaughan had 10 digs and Ault dished 23 assists and accounted for seven of the team's 11 service aces.
Shasta's season ends at 13-16 after taking second place in the Golden Valley Conference with an 8-2 record.
Vaughan's 563 digs are third-most in the state and Hamilton's 327 kills ranked 19th in the state. Ault's 48 service aces were 25th in the state and her 467 assists were 47th.
