HITTING DUO HAMILTON, WESTPHAL LEAD KNIGHTS AT SHASTA CLASSIC

REDDING, Calif. – Shasta College's volleyball team split at home in the Shasta Classic on Saturday, sweeping Ohlone 25-11, 25-22, 25-16 before losing in five sets to Folsom Lake 25-23, 25-15, 20-25, 20-25, 15-5.

The outside hitting duo of Presley Hamilton and Emmarae Westphal paced the Knights on the weekend with 25 kills and 20 kills, respectively. Brooke Vaughan added 44 digs to her season total to put her third in the state after the weekend with 317 digs.

In the win over Ohlone, Hamilton's 12 kills and 17 digs were both team-highs while Westphal added 10 kills and Sanaii Cooper chipped in with eight kills. Sarah Ault dished 29 assists and four service aces, Kelci Vance had four blocking assists and Vaughan totaled 13 digs and four aces.

Against Folsom Lake, Ault registered a triple-double with 10 kills, 29 assists and 14 digs. Hamilton turned in double-double with 13 kills and 13 digs while Westphal added 10 kills. Vaughan racked up 31 digs and turned in a season-high 10 service aces while Cooper had one solo block and four blocking assists.

The Knights lost earlier in the week in four sets to visiting Sierra College 22-25, 25-22, 25-18, 25-12. Hamilton led the offense with 13 kills, Westphal was next with seven kills, Ault totaled 24 assists and 18 digs, Vaughan added 16 digs and Cooper had six blocking assists.

Shasta wraps up non-conference play 4-13 overall and plays at College of the Siskiyous on Friday in the Golden Valley Conference opener.
