SHASTA ENDS WEEK WITH VICTORY OVER REEDLEY

Shasta College started last week with losses to Southwestern Community College of Oregon and West Valley at home in the Shasta Classic, and then dropped three of four matches at the Delta Classic over the weekend.

Sophomore Cameron Wallace led the offense with 50 kills in the six matches, sophomore Maddison Smedley dished 81 assists on the week and freshman Jenna Hodges had 110 digs to end the week with 160 total, which ranks second in the state.

Shasta Classic

Against Southwestern, Shasta lost 26-24, 25-19, 19-25, 25-18. The Knights had two players with double-digit kills in sophomore Kaitlyn Kirk (12) and Cameron Wallace (11). Smedley had 19 assists and freshman Grace Lommen totaled 17 assists. Hodges led the way with 23 digs.

Shasta lost in four sets to West Valley 25-18, 23-25, 25-7, 25-13. The Knights had a .458 hitting percentage in the second-set victory. Freshman Rachel Duhn led the Knights with eight kills while sophomore Jessica Troxclair and freshman Mariah Castle each had six, and Wallace added five kills. Smedley dished 17 assists and Lommen had five. Castle had 12 digs and Hodges had 11 digs.

Delta Classic

The Knights totaled 20 kills while being swept by San Joaquin Delta 25-10, 25-21, 25-14. Duhn had six kills, Smedley dished 12 assists and Hodges racked up 16 digs.

Shasta lost in four sets to Solano 22-25, 25-17, 25-21, 25-21, hitting .417 in the opening set win. Wallace's 14 kills was a match-high, Castle added 10 kills, Duhn had seven and Kirk had six kills. Smedley registered 20 assists and Lommen had 17. Hodges led all players with 20 digs while Smedley was strong defensively with 17 digs.

The Knights were swept by Taft 25-17, 25-15, 25-20. Castle led Shasta with seven kills while Wallace had five kills and the Knights got four kills apiece from Duhn and freshman Rachel Wasko. Smedley had 11 assists and Lommen dished nine. Hodges paced Shasta with 14 digs and Castle added 12 digs.

Shasta snapped its five-match losing streak with a four set victory over Reedley to end the weekend, winning 15-25, 25-13, 25-23, 25-23. Wallace was the lone Knight with double-digit kills with 12, and was followed by Duhn's six kills and five each from Kirk and sophomore Brea Carter. Freshman setter Madisen Trubelood had 16 assists and Lommen had four. Hodges's 26 digs were a match-high.

Shasta has four matches this week with two at the Fremont Hills Classic against Ohlone and San Francisco. Shasta faces Sacramento City and De Anza on Friday at the De Anza Classic.
