REDDING, Calif. – Shasta College's women's soccer team won its first Golden Valley Conference match of the year by beating College of the Redwoods on Tuesday 2-1.
The Knights gave up a goal in the 8th minute but scored two goals in the final 15 minutes of the match to pick of the victory and snap an eight-match winless skid that dated back to Sept. 14 against Napa Valley.
Freshman Olivia Smith set up sophomore Paige Reed for a goal in the 75th minute and sophomore Alexis Arnold assisted Aspen Smith for the game-winning goal in the 89th minute. Shasta freshman goalkeeper Bethany Sather had five saves in the match.
The Knights couldn't keep the momentum going, dropping a 6-0 decision at Butte College on Friday. Butte scored twice in the first half and then three goals in the first five minutes of the second half to pull away. Sather had seven saves in the match.
Shasta is 1-7-2 in GVC play and 3-11-2 overall with two matches remaining – at Siskiyous and wrapping up the regular season Friday at home against Lassen.
