KNIGHTS DROP A PAIR OF ROAD MATCHES

Shasta College's women's soccer team lost two matches last week on the road, falling to unbeaten Sierra College 13-0 and losing to American River 9-2.

The Knights had only three shots on goal against Sierra compared to the Wolverines' 27. Shasta gave up nine goals in the first half, including four in the first 10 minutes. Jenna Monahan, Meah Bush and Paige Reed each recorded a shot on goal for the Knights. Shasta goalkeeper Bethany Sather gave up 13 goals and had 13 saves in the defeat.

Shasta was able to get on the board against American River when Olivia Smith assisted Reed for a goal in the 25th minute to cut the deficit in half to 2-1. However, the Knights gave up six straight goals to the Beavers to fall behind. Shasta's Smith scored in the 64th minute.

Three American River players scored two goals each, led by Kai Cooper's two goals and three assists, and a total of six players scored. Reed's goal was her second of the season and Smith has scored three goals this year. Sather recorded nine saves while giving up nine goals. She has 40 saves on the season, which ranks second in the state.

Shasta has two more road matches this week against Yuba College on Tuesday and at Napa Valley on Friday before returning home on Sept. 21 against Folsom Lake.
