KNIGHTS CLIMB TO SECOND IN GVC STANDINGS

REDDING, Calif. – The Knights continue to climb in the Golden Valley Conference standings, posting an undefeated week to move into second place in the GVC.

Shasta College edged Butte College 3-2 at home and played to a scoreless draw against College of the Redwoods last week to hold a 0.5 game lead for second over Butte. Lake Tahoe Community College holds a commanding lead in the conference at 8-0.

The Knights are 4-2-1 in GVC play and 9-4-1 overall, including only one loss in their past six matches.

Butte took a 2-1 lead over Shasta in the 59th minute but Shasta scored twice in span of 10 minutes to pull out the victory. Taylor Pinnell scored the equalizer on a penalty kick in the 65th minute and Emily Brooks had the game-winner on an unassisted goal in the 75th minute.

Maite Silva-Bradley scored the Knights' first goal on an assist from Sierra Brenner. Goalkeeper Alexandra Erickson had five saves and allowed on goal in 45 minutes of play, and Paige Reed had six saves and allowed one goal in 45 minutes in the net.

Against Redwoods, for yellow cards were handed out, including a red card to Rylie Pinnell. It was the third time the Knights posted a shutout this season but couldn't get a victory.

Shasta held the edge on shots on goal 5-4 and overall shots 14-5. Reed and Kirstin Adams each had saves for the Knights.

Shasta hosts Feather River College Friday and Lassen College on Tuesday.
