KNIGHTS HAMMER MERRITT, DVC FOR NINE STRAIGHT WINS

REDDING, Calif. – The Shasta College women's basketball team extended its winning streak to nine games last week with a pair of home wins in the Shasta College Crossover, hammering Merritt 78-43 and handling Diablo Valley College 74-39.

The Knights (10-2) have averaged a 22-point margin of victory across their winning streak.

Against Merritt, Shasta led 44-21 at half and outscored Merritt in every quarter despite only shooting 3-of-25 from 3-point range. The Knights took 98 shots total in the games, making 34 (34 percent). Four starters finished in double figures with sophomore Riley Wallen as the top scorer with 19 points to go with 15 rebounds and five steals. Lexi Robbins scored 18 points off the bench, Megan Collins and Isabela Padilla each tallied 13 points and Amber Wallace contributed 12 points and a team-high 18 rebounds.

Shasta led 19-8 over Diablo Valley at the end of the opening period and cruised the rest of the way. Wallen's 15 points led Shasta in scoring while Collins had 11 points and four assists. Padilla grabbed 12 rebounds, Wallace pulled down 10 rebounds to go with four blocks, Ashlyn Arnold scored 11 points off the bench and Kaleia Mizuta tallied nine points and five rebounds.

The Knights play at American River College on Tuesday and play in the San Mateo Tournament this week against San Mateo on Friday and Cabrillo on Saturday.
