MARTINEZ LEADS KNIGHTS TO TWO VICTORIES

REDDING, Calif. – Shasta College's women's basketball team won both Golden Valley Conference contests last week, pounding Lassen 77-55 on Wednesday and topping College of the Siskiyous 83-71 on the road Saturday.

Jordan Martinez had a career week, scoring 21 and 22 points in the two games, respectively, the most in her two-year collegiate career. Martinez was a perfect 6 for 6 from 3-point range in the first half against Lassen, helping Shasta build a 45-30 lead. Against Siskiyous, Martinez upped her season-high in points from a few days prior to 22 points, knocking down four more 3s.

In the win over Lassen, freshman Justyse Cooper scored eight of her 13 points in the third quarter and finished with a double-double with 12 boards, sophomore Kayla Bonomini scored 16 points on four 3s, and sophomore Mari Fernandez chipped in with 14 points and four steals. Martinez added eight rebounds, seven assists and three steals to her 21-point effort.

Against Siskiyous, Shasta put up 30 points in the third quarter to pull away in a tight game. Cooper matched Martinez's team-high 22 points and grabbed eight rebounds and dished five assists in the win. Bonomini scored 16 points to go with eight boards and four assists, sophomore Keeley Tuggle added 14 points and Fernandez added seven points and nine rebounds.

Shasta takes its 3-1 GVC mark and 10-9 overall record into Saturday's 2 p.m. home game against Feather River College.
