KNIGHTS SLOW DOWN IN SECOND HALF IN LOSS TO BUTTE

BUTTE VALLEY, Calif. – A poor shooting second-half sank the Shasta College women's basketball team in a 71-60 defeat at rival Butte College on Saturday.

The Knights shot 17 percent from the 3-point range (6 of 35) and 25 percent from the floor (18 of 70) on the night. Shasta led 34-32 at half thanks to a 25-16 advantage in the second period. But couldn't keep the momentum going.

Shasta won the turnover battle 17-7 and made 18 free throws compared to Butte's four.

Sophomores Kayla Bonomini scored 16 points and Jordan Martinez scored 15 points while freshman Justyse Cooper scored 10 points to go with 11 rebounds for a double-double, and sophomore Mari Fernandez added nine points and eight rebounds.

Freshman Terra Crawford scored all seven of the Knights'  bench points. Martinez's five assists led the team while sophomore Keeley Tuggle grabbed eight boards and Cooper had four blocks.

Cooper has four double-doubles on the season.

Shasta College falls top 1-1 in Golden Valley Conference play and 8-9 overall. The Knights host Lassen College Wednesday before going to College of the Siskiyous Saturday.
