EUREKA, Calif. – Shasta College's women's basketball team opened up Golden Valley Conference play with a 70-65 road win over College of the Redwoods Saturday.
The Knights jumped out to an 18-11 advantage in the first quarter and led 51-42 heading into the final period.
Shasta had four players score in double figures, led by Justyse Cooper's 21 points. Sophomore Mari Fernandez scored 18 points, sophomore Jordan Martinez added 10 points, eight rebounds and seven assists, and freshman Terra Crawford scored 10 points off the bench.
Cooper added seven rebounds and three blocks while sophomore Keeley Tuggle led the Knights with two steals
Shasta made a season-best 20 free throws in the game compared to 23 field goals and tied a season-low with nine turnovers.
The Knights improve to 8-8 overall and 1-0 in GVC play and play at Butte College on Saturday.
