BENCH SCORING KEY IN KNIGHT VICTORIES

REDDING, Calif. – Shasta College's women's basketball team continues to dominate this season with a 77-69 road victory over Monterey Peninsula and a 90-34 road victory over Yuba College last week.

The Knights are 5-1 to start the season with their only loss to a ranked team in Southern California. Shasta separates itself from opponents with its depth as the Knights' bench outscored the 49ers as a whole and held the edge against the Lobos in bench points.

"I am very pleased with the start the tam has gotten off to, considering we only had one returning starter in Kilee Hannan," Shasta College head coach Jerry Brown said. "The other players, including the bench, have all stepped up and contributed in big ways at different times."

Shasta nailed 13 3-pointers (46.4 percent) in the win over Monterey, doubled the Lobos' rebounding efforts 45-21, and the Knights' bench outscored the Lobos 28-17. Freshman Sheleah Stephens was the leading scorer with 16 points and 13 points for a double-double off the bench. Sophomore Aubrie Wall scored 15 points – fueled by her 5 of 7 from long range, Hannan added 14 points and four assists, sophomore Julia Hill pitched in with eight points and 12 rebounds, and freshman Jordan Martinez scored nine points to go with our assists.

In the lopsided win over Yuba, three Knights were in double figures and every player scored in the game. Hannan led the way with 18 points and nine rebounds, freshman Kayla Bonomini scored 17 points to go with six boards off the bench, and Wall scored 10 points.

Hill and freshman Mikenzy Frye each contributed nine points while freshman reserve Carley Copello grabbed eight rebounds.

Next up for Shasta is a home game against Marin Saturday at 4 p.m.
