REUSS SECOND IN HEPTATHLON AT NORCAL CHAMPIONSHIP TRIALS

HAYWARD, Calif. – Shasta College sophomore Audrie Reuss finished in second place in the Heptathlon at the 2022 Northern California Trials at Chabot College over the weekend.

A sophomore from University Prep in Redding, Reuss scored 3,895 total points across the six events, finishing 286 points behind winner Emily Johnson of Santa Rosa Junior College.

Reuss won the shot put with a throw of 34 feet, 4 inches to pick up 560 points, besting the second-place mark by 1 foot, 6.25 inches.

She finished second in the high jump, clearing 4-9.5 to earn 577 points. Johnson won the event with a jump of 5-2.25.

Reuss took third in two events, the 100-meter hurdles and the javelin throw. In the hurdles, she ran 16.15 points to pick up 696 points. Alexis Ranger-Dunbar of De Anza won in 15.49 and Johnson edged Reuss to take second in 16.14. In the javelin, Reuss threw 100-04 to earn 488 points. Miekayla Surnip of San Joaquin Delta won with a throw of 115-02 and Maezie Castillo of De Anza finished ahead of Reuss with a throw of 100-11. Reuss improved on her javelin throw that won her the Golden Valley Conference championship the week before by nearly five feet.

In the 800 meters, Reuss was fourth in 2:42.74 for 542 points. Maya Lew of De Anza (2:29.22), Jordan Martinez of Modesto (2:40.42) and Johnson (2:41.04) finished in the top three, respectively.

Reuss was fifth in the long jump with a jump of 14-9.75 to pick up 431 points, tying with Amelia Adamson of Yuba College. Johnson won the event with a jump of 16-9.25.

Reuss finished sixth in the 200 (28.38) to earn 601 points. Ranger-Dunbar won in 27.02 and Johnson was second in 27.07.

Reuss also took fifth in the prelims for the 100 hurdles in 15.84 seconds, which was better than her heptathlon time of 16.15.

Reuss and other Shasta College competitors are in action next weekend at the 2022 Northern California Championships at Chabot College.
