REUSS, PIGONI-COVINGTON CAPTURE GVC TITLES

MARYSVILLE, Calif. – Shasta College's Audrie Reuss captured two Golden Valley Conference championships and Anthony Pigoni-Covington claimed another at the GVC Championship track and field meet at Yuba College on Saturday.

Reuss won both the 100-meter hurdles (15.64 seconds) and the high jump (4 foot, 9 inches). She was in the top five in the shot put and the javelin throw.

Pigoni-Covington won the high jump with a jump of 6-7 to earn the title.

Shasta College's women's track and field team finished in the top-five in all six events to earn 22 points. College of the Redwoods won with 109 points, followed by Yuba College (70) and Butte College (66) while College of the Siskiyous was fifth with four points.

Grace Southern was second in the 1,500 meters (4:38.39), which tied the best time in school history entering this year with Yoshi Shimizu (1986). Southern bested that mark earlier this season to set the school record.

The Shasta men finished fifth with 32 points, capturing one GVC win and eight top-five finishes. Aside from Pigoni-Covington's win, Shasta's 4x100 Relay team was second, Jackson Reindel was second in the 400 and Luke King took third in the shot put.

Shasta heads to the NorCal Trials at Chabot College on Friday and Saturday.

Below is a breakdown of each Shasta participant by event:

MEN

100-meter dash: Taivonn Ervin was fifth (11.35), Holden Gilbert was sixth (11.42).

200-meter dash: Reindel was fourth (23.83), Ervin was sixth (24.02), Jordan Hall was ninth (24.57).

400 meters: Reindel was second (51.14), Gage Bellomo was seventh (53.42).

800 meters: Devon Hammeke was eighth (2:20.37), Bellomo was ninth (2:20.49).

1,500 meters: Hammeke was eighth (4:49.39).

4x100 Relay: Shasta's team of Hall, Gilbert, Harris and Tavian Wallace was second in 44.29.

4x400 Relay: Shasta's team of Bellomo, Gilbert, Reindel and Hammeke was third (3:51.94).

High Jump: Pigoni-Covington won with a jump of 6-7

Shot Put: King was third (45-4.5).

Discus: King was third (130-11).

WOMEN

800 meters: Angelique Escobar was fourth (3:54.40).

1,500 meters: Southern was second in 4:38.39.

100-meter hurdles: Reuss won in 15.64.

High Jump: Reuss won with a jump of 4-9.

Shot Put: Reuss was third (32-8.25).

Javelin: Reuss was fifth (95-8).
