PIGONI-COVINGTON, SOUTHERN WIN AT 49ER LAST CHANCE MEET

Pigoni-Covington, Southern win at 49er Last Chance Meet

MARYSVILLE, Calif. – Shasta College's Anthony Pigoni-Covington and Grace Southern both won an event with a California Community College qualifying 'A' mark at the 49er Last Chance Meet Saturday at Yuba College.

Pigoni-Covington won the height jump, clearing 6-feet, 6-inches, which is the eighth-best mark in the state this year. Pigoni-Covington holds the fifth-best height for California Community Colleges when he cleared 6-8 at the Yuba 49er Invite on Feb. 26.

Southern, who holds the fastest time in the 1,500-meter race in the state this year, won in 4 minutes, 41.68 seconds, which ranks as the third-fastest time this season in the CCCAA.

Shasta's team is next at the Golden Valley Conference Championship meet at Yuba College on Friday and Saturday.

Below are the results for each event that involved a Shasta College athlete:

MEN

100 meters: Holden Gilbert finished ninth (11.36). In prelims, Taivonn Ervin was 16th (11.55), Dante Harris was 20th (11.64), Josiah Graham was 22nd (11.94) and Jordan Hall was 24th (11.97).

200 meters: Gilbert was 11th (23.30), Jackson Reindel was 19th (23.92), Hall was 26th (24.75).

400 meters: Reindel was seventh (53.58),  Gage Bellomo was eighth (54.41).

800 meters: Bellomo was 15th (2:21.90), Devon Hammeke was 17th (2:25.62).

1,500 meters: Hammeke was 11th (4:57.93).

400 hurdles: Tavian Wallace was sixth (1:19.86).

4x100 Relay: Shasta's team of Gilbert, Harris, Hall and Ervin was third in 44.02.

High Jump: Pigoni-Covington won with a height of 6 foot, 6 inches.

Long Jump: Pigoni-Covington was fourth with a jump of 20-4.5.

Discus: Luke King was fifth with a throw of 124-4.

WOMEN

100 meters: Chloe Whitmire didn't record a time in the finals despite placing ninth in the prelims in 13.35.

800 meters: Angelique Escobar was 11th in 3:55.52.

1,500 meters: Southern won in 4:41.68.

Shot Put: Audrie Reuss tied for sixth with a throw of 33-3.

Javelin: Reuss was eighth with a throw of 87-6.
