REUSS, MARTINEZ PLACE AT CHICO STATE HEPTATHLON

CHICO, Calif. – Shasta College's Audrie Reuss finished in fourth place and Katherine Martinez took sixth in the Heptathlon Finals at the 35th annual Chico State Multi-Event Classic across Thursday and Friday.

Reuss, a freshman from U-Prep in Redding, scored 3,737 points including three top-five finishes at the event. Martinez, a freshman out of Del Norte High School in Crescent City, scored 3,632 points and had two top-five finishes.

Reuss' best event was the 100-meter hurdles, running in 15.61 to finish second overall. She also finished fourth in the shot put with a throw of 30 feet, 2.75 inches, fifth in the 200 (28.01 seconds), sixth in the high jump (4-9.5), eighth in the long jump (15-5.5), ninth in the javelin throw (82-8) and 10th in the 800 (2:54.21).

Martinez's best event was the javelin, where her throw of 111-5 was second among the competitors. She was fifth in the 100 hurdles (16.80), eighth in both the 200 (28.31) and the 800 (2:45.24), ninth in the shot put (28-5.5), 10th in the long jump (14-7.25) and 12th in the high jump (4-6).

There were 14 total competitors at the meet, some from four-year universities of Chico State, Cal Poly Pomona, Oregon Tech and William Jessup. Other junior colleges competing were Yuba College, Butte College and Modesto Junior College.
