BURKE CAPTURES TWO EVENTS IN SACRAMENTO

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Shasta College freshman Alyssa Burke won two events at the Jamie Nieto Invitational when the Knights competed last week at Sacramento City College.

Burke captured the high jump with a mark of 5 feet, 5.75 inches and won the triple jump with a distance of 36-5. In the high jump, she cleared the winning height of 5-3.75 on her first attempt, which won her the event. But she went on to clear 5-5.75 on her third attempt.

Overall, the Knight women had 14 Top 10 finishes while the men had six while competing against NCAA Division II program Chico State among other junior college programs such as Sacramento City, Modesto and American River.

The Shasta men didn't have any winners but Brock Fisher and Jim Mogen both earned second place finishes in their respective events. Fisher was second in the 110-meter hurdles in 15.73 seconds and Mogen was second in the shot put (42-5.5).

Shasta College competes Saturday at the San Francisco State Distance Carnival at Chabot College at 10 a.m.

MENS RESULTS

Running: Kenyon Riley was ninth in the 200 (22.52) and 15th in the 100 (11.39), Dy'Shone Hayes was 22nd in the 200 (23.57), Matthew McCree was 32nd in the 200 (25.90) and Roland Black was 34th in the 200 (26.55).

Field: Erik Valdez was ninth in the pole vault (12-1.5), Aaron Young was 17th in the pole vault (11-7.75), Connor Nix was 20th in the pole vault (11-1.75) and Joseph Williams was 22nd in the pole vault (11-1.75). Theodore Corontzos was sixth in the triple jump (36-11) and 17th in the long jump (17-2.75) and Bradley Murray was 12th in the long jump (19-2.75).

Throwing: Jim Mogen was second in the shot put (42-5.5) and 13th in the discus (102-4) and Payton Harrell was sixth in the discus (116-0) and seventh in the shot put (38-4.75).

WOMENS RESULTS

Running: Shasta's 4x100 Relay Team of Jenna Hodges, Kylanna Bluford, Maddison Smedley and Kayla Bowden was sixth in 53.30. Bowden was eighth in the 100 hurdles (18.90), 10th in the 200 (29.54) and 12th in the 100 (14.02). Alia Sager was seventh in the 100 hurdles (18.68) and 13th in the 100 (14.34), Lauren Garcia-Gomez was 15th in the 100 (16.05) and Elizabeth Clarkson was seventh in the 5,000 (24:14.98).

Field: Aside from winning the high jump and triple jump, Burke was 10th in the long jump (14-7.25) and Smedley was eighth in the pole vault (7-3.25). Bluford was fifth in the long jump (16-1), Hodges was sixth in the triple jump (32-0.25) and ninth in the long jump (15-4.25), and Shalene Cobb was eighth in the triple jump (30-5) and 12th in the long jump (13-11.75).

Throwing: Emmaline Forrester was seventh in the discus (105-5) and 15th in the shot put (27-6.5), Alyson Zuidema was 14th in the discus (82-4) and 18th in the shot put (25-10) and Gabby Castillo was 17th in the discus (68-3).
