KNIGHTS TAKE FOURTH AT MERCED MEET

MERCED, Calif. – The Shasta College swimming and diving team finished fourth at the Merced Last Chance meet last week.

San Joaquin Delta won the combined event with 951 points, followed by Merced (923), Sequoias (808) and Shasta (547), respectively.

Shasta's women was third with 370 points while the men took fifth with 177 points. Delta was the top women's team with 559 points and Merced had the top men's team with 591 points.

Howard Evans was the meet high-point winner with 57 points in his three events. Dana McMurtrey collected 49 points to lead the Knights, finishing fifth among the women. The Knights won four events overall.

MEN'S RESULTS

Evans won the 50-yard freestyle in 22.27 seconds and the 100 breaststroke (1:02.65) and was second in the 100 free (49.19).

Curtis Moore had a pair of top-10 finishes, taking seventh in the 50 free (24.21) and ninth in the 100 breast (1:15.67). He also finished 12th in the 100 free (57.93).

Mitchell Palmer was eighth in the 200 breast (2:53.86) and 10th in the 1,650 free (21:42.16). Bryon Upshaw was fifth in the 100 backstroke (1:15.13) and 13th in the 100 free (58.22).

WOMEN'S RESULTS

McMurtrey was second in the 100 breast (1:20.84) and third in both the 200 free (2:11.56) and 100 back (1:08.25).

Aida Kowalski totaled 45 points, finishing second in the 50 free (27.25), fourth in the 100 free (1:00.62) and sixth in the 100 back (1:12.50).

Anglique Passadakis (40 points) won both diving events, taking the 1-meter competition with 158.1 points and winning the 3-meter competition with 143.3 points.

Nicole Keane racked up 30 points with a fourth-place finish in the 400 Individual Medley (6:05.53), a sixth-place finish in the 200 breast (3:06.77) and she was 15th in the 500 free (7:07.21).

Haley Moebes had two top 10 finishes, taking seventh in the 100 back (1:16.05) and eighth in the 100 free (1:02.28). Brooke Engles scored 20 points in her three events, taking ninth in the 500 free (6:32.72), 11th in the 50 free (28.29) and 12th in the 100 free (1:04.91). Stephanie Parsons scored in all three of her events, finishing fifth in the 100 fly (1:15.02), 14th in the 100 free (1:06.91) and 16th in the 50 free (29.35). Mirena Guillot was 10th in the 100 free (1:03.33) and 13th in both the 50 free (28.42) and 500 free (6:41.90).
