SHASTA OPENS GVC WITH LOSS TO SISKIYOUS

REDDING, Calif. – Shasta College's softball team opening Golden Valley Conference play with a doubleheader home loss to College of the Siskiyous, falling 15-6 and 12-1.

In the first game, Shasta scored five runs in the opening frame but the lead wasn't long-lasted as Siskiyous scored nine in the third to run away with it. Morgan Bourke gave up 10 runs – four earned – on seven hits in three innings to take the loss. Callie Kingsbury went 2 for 3 with a home run, Kira Montgomery hit a three-run home run and Joci Bertain and Savannah Cruz each had a double. Kiley Wendt was 1 for 2 with a pair of RBIs.

In the second game, the Knights gave up five runs in both the fourth and seventh innings. Cora Peterson took the loss for Shasta, which committed seven errors in the game. Peterson struck out three and walked one while giving up 12 runs – four earned – on 12 hits in the complete game loss. Montgomery was 2 for 4 with an RBI as the lone multi-hit game from Shasta.
