REDDING, Calif. – Shasta College's softball team went 2-2 on the week, splitting a doubleheader with Mendocino and Chabot each. The Knights lost 7-1 and won the second 9-6 against Mendocino and lost 14-8 against Chabot before winning 10-5 in the nightcap.
Mendocino 7, Shasta 1
The Knights gave up all seven runs in the fourth inning. Cora Peterson took the loss despite striking out eight batters and allowing seven unearned runs on nine hits. Macey Bunn went 2 for 3 with a double and Savannah Cruz scored a run.
Shasta 9, Mendocino 6
The Knights rallied from a 6-0 deficit with three runs in the third and fourth inning. Bunn's RBI single in the sixth was the go-ahead run and Autumn Tenney and Morgan Bourke each stole home. Callie Kingsbury was 2 for 4 with a home run, three RBIs and two runs, Bunn had two RBIs, Tenney was 2 for 3 with three runs and Bourke scored twice. Joci Bertain was the winning pitcher after giving up six runs on nine hits in the complete game.
Chabot 14, Shasta 8
Chabot trailed 8-7 in the top of the seventh but rallied for a seven-run inning to pull away for the win. Bertain gave up eight runs on 10 hits in 4.1 innings to take the loss. Shasta racked up 14 hits in the game with four players recording multi-hit games. Bourke had two doubles and three RBIs, Kingsbury had two doubles and scored a run, Bunn was 2 for 4 with an RBI, Kira Montgomery was 3 for 4 with a run, Peterson had a double and drove in two runs and Kiley Wendt had a double and scored a run.
Shasta 10, Chabot 5
The Knights used a six-run sixth inning rally to pull out the victory and split on the doubleheader. Bourke went 2 for 4 with a home run, three RBIs and two runs, Bertain had two doubles and three RBIs, Kingsbury hit a home run and scored twice and Montgomery had a double. Peterson struck out six and walked one while allowed four earned runs on nine hits to earn the complete game victory.
