SHASTA SWEPT BY LASSEN ON OPENING WEEKEND

REDDING, Calif. – Shasta College's softball team lost a home doubleheader to Lassen College on the opening weekend of the season, falling 13-3 in five innings and 15-3 in five innings.

Lassen 13, Shasta 3 (5)
The Knights surrendered seven runs in the top of the first inning and couldn't catch up. Cora Peterson gave up 10 runs – seven earned – on 11 hits across three innings to take the loss. Morgan Bourke pitched two innings of relief and gave up three runs on three hits. Kira Montgomery was 2 for 3 with a double and a run, Macey Bunn was 2 for 3 with a double, an RBI and scored a run, Peterson had a hit and scored a run and Raya Vaughn was 1 for 2 with an RBI.

Lassen 15, Shasta 3 (5)
Lassen scored nine in the second inning and added six in the fourth to mercy-run rule the Knights. Peterson gave up eight earned runs on seven hits in two innings and Joci Bertain allowed six runs – one earned – on seven hits in three innings pitched. Peterson was 3 for 3 at the plate, Savannah Cruz was 3 for 3 with a double and a run, Bourke hit a double and scored a run, Autumn Tenney had an RBI single and Montgomery had an RBI.
