REDDING, Calif. – The Shasta College softball team swept Yuba College at home 9-1, 9-1 in a non-conference doubleheader before losing to College of the Redwoods 6-1, 9-2 on the road.
Shasta 9, Yuba 1 (5)
Cora Peterson struck out eight and allowed one unearned run on four hits to earn the complete-game win. Autumn Campbell was the lone Knight with a multi-hit game, going 2 for 3 with a triple, an RBI, three runs and three stolen bases. Six other Knights totaled hits with Macey Bunn recording a triple and two runs, Khloe Forrister adding a double and a run, and Peterson driving in three runs and scoring once.
Shasta 9, Yuba 1 (6)
Whitney Carnes' RBI single in the bottom of the sixth finished the game in the mercy-rule. Carnes was the winning pitcher and finished with six strikeouts, one walk and one earned run on five hits while pitching a complete game. She was also 2 for 4 with the RBI at the plate as part of three Knights with two-hit days. Bunn was 2 for 4 with two doubles and two runs, Peterson was 2 for 3 with an RBI and Autumn Campbell hit a triple and scored four times. Kiley Wendt drove in three runs.
Redwoods 6, Shasta 1
Shasta's two hits in the game came from Peterson, who also had a double. Autumn Tenney scored the lone run on a fielder's choice. Carnes struck out four, walked one and yielded six runs on 10 hits in the loss.
Redwoods 9, Shasta 2
The Corsairs had a six-run third inning to blow the game open. Campbell was 1 for 3 with a stolen base and a run, Bunn was 1 for 2 with an RBI and Tenney scored a run. Peterson took the loss, giving up seven earned runs on eight hits in six innings.
