MENDOCINO, Calif. – Shasta College's softball team picked up their first two wins of the season by sweeping Mendocino 12-5 and 9-3 on the road.
Shasta 12, Mendocino 5
The Knights used a four-run fifth inning to pull away for the first win of the year. Whitney Carnes struck out eight and walked one while allowing four earned runs on nine hits to earn the complete game win. She also went 2 for 4 at the plate with an RBI. Sofie Lebow was 2 for 4 with a triple and three RBIs, Cora Peterson was 1 for 4 with a double, two RBIs and two runs and Autumn Tenney was 2 for 4 with a run. Kiley Wendt, Khloe Forrister and Riley Horton each scored twice.
Shasta 9, Mendocino 3
Shasta trailed 3-0 until the top of the sixth when the Knights produced a nine-run frame, highlighted by a three-run home run by Lebow. Horton was 3 for 4 with two doubles and a run, Wendt was 2 for 5 with a double and two runs and Macey Bunn and Carnes each hit a double. Autumn Campbell got the win in the circle for the Knights. She allowed one earned run on six hits and struck out four in the complete game.
Shasta (2-4) plays at Yuba and at Cabrillo this week.
