KNIGHTS FALL TO NO. 2 SAN MATEO

SAN MATEO – The Shasta College softball team dropped a 17-4 road game in five innings to San Mateo, the No. 2 ranked team in the California Community College Athletic Association (3CFCA) on Feb. 26.

The Knights gave up nine runs in the first inning and eight runs in the third. Shasta managed one run in the second on Madeline Nightingale's RBI single. In the fourth, Shelbe Cappello drove in Nightingale on an RBI single to highlight a three-run inning that included Autumn Campbell and Whitney Carnes both scoring on a fielder's choice hit by Kaylie McDaniel.

McKenzy Fernandes was 2 for 3 with a run, Nightingale was 1 for 2 with a run and an RBI, McDaniel had a pair of RBIs and Cappello was 1 for 3 with an RBI.

Carnes walked four, struck out one and allowed 17 earned runs on 14 hits in four innings.
