RUPERT, SHASTA COLLEGE SHUTS OUT NO. 2 SAN MATEO

SAN MATEO, Calif. – Shasta College's softball team split a doubleheader with No. 2 College of San Mateo Saturday, winning the first game 2-0 and losing the nightcap 6-1.

In the opener, freshman pitcher Reilly Rupert threw a two-hit shutout of the CCCAA's second-ranked team. She walked three and earned the win.

Sophomore Haylee Sobrero was responsible for both runs for the Knights, knocking in Alison Lee and Rupert on a single in the third inning.

It was the first time San Mateo was shut out this season.

In the second game, Lee took the loss in the circle to fall to 3-1 on the season. She walked four and allowed six earned runs on 10 hits in six innings.

The Knights collected seven hits but stranded nine runners on base in the game. Shasta's only run came on Paige Mitchell's single, scoring Marissa Hopkins.

Freshman Erica Parent was 2 for 4, freshman Destinee Baird was 1 for 4 with a double, Hopkins was 2 for 2 with a run and a walk, and Mitchell was 2 for 3 with an RBI.

Shasta (7-5) opens Golden Valley Conference play Wednesday with a doubleheader at College of the Siskiyous.
