SHASTA COLLEGE WINS BACK-TO-BACK MATCHES

REDDING, Calif. – Shasta College's men's soccer team won back-to-back matches for the first time this season, beating College of the Redwoods 2-0 and College of the Siskiyous 2-1 last week.

The Knights have won three of their past four matches after starting the year 1-4.

Against Redwoods, Shasta goalkeeper Adam Nichols recorded his first cleansheet of the season, recording nine saves in the victory. Miguel Ortiz III scored both goals, the first coming on an unassisted goal in the first minute and a goal in the 60th minute off an assist from Salvador Santoyo Carrion.

Sam Elwood, Santiago Valera and Carrion each had a shot on goal.

In the win over Siskiyous, the Knights went into the half tied at 1-1 but Elwood set up Valera for the game-winning goal in the 77th minute. Gilberto Manuel Sanchez scored the other goal for Shasta. Blake Thompson and Jose Antonio Hinojosa each had a shot on goal. Nichols had five saves in goal.

Shasta (4-5, 3-3 GVC) hosts Feather River Tuesday and plays at Butte Friday. The Knights were outscored 15-3 by the two squads in the first wave of GVC play.
