REDDING, Calif. – Three different Knights scored as Shasta College's men's soccer team beat Lassen College Thursday for the first Golden Valley Conference win of the year.
The Knights were tied at one at the half. Jose Antonio Hinojos scored in the 60th minute to lead 2-1 but Lassen answered in the 88th minute. But Shasta wasn't done as Giovanni Antonio Gar assisted Miguel Ortiz III in the 90th minute to win the match.
Blake Thompson scored the first half goal for the Knights on an assist from Isaiah Putnam. Shasta's Logan Coots had the other assist in the match and Adam Nichols recorded nine saves on 11 shots to earn the victory.
Earlier in the week, Shasta lost its GVC home opener to Butte 8-2. The Knights gave up four first half goals and didn't score until they trailed 6-0. Ortiz III scored both goals for Shasta with Coots assisting one of them.
Nichols had three saves and allowed four goals while Jose Roberto Garcia Padilla had seven saves and allowed four goals.
Shasta is 1-2 in GVC play and 2-4 overall and plays at Lake Tahoe Friday in the only match this week.
