SHASTA SPLITS ON WEEKEND AT REDWOODS

Eureka, Calif. – The Shasta College men's basketball team split two games on the weekend at College of the Redwoods, beating Sierra College 72-61 and losing to Mendocino 68-61.

Sophomore point guard Michael Plunkitt had 14 assists in the two games, making that three straight games with seven assists. He ranks seventh in the state with 56 assists and second in the state with 39 steals.

Shasta 72, Sierra 61
The Knights trailed by 10 at halftime but outscored the Wolverines 47-26 in the second half to pull out the victory. Simmer Singh led Shasta in scoring and rebounds with 16 points and four boards, Derek Gorden had 15 points and four steals and Plunkitt scored 15 points to go with seven steals and seven assists. Tanner Bidwell added eight points.

Mendocino 68, Shasta 61
Shasta trailed by three at half but overcome a halftime deficit in consecutive days. Singh scored 21 points and grabbed eight boards to lead the Knight while Gorden scored 16 points. Johnny Cruz scored eight points off the bench. Plunkitt scored four points, grabbed six rebounds and dished seven assists in the loss.

Shasta is 8-4 and plays Thursday against Los Medanos in the Kris Kringle Tournament at Santa Rosa.
