SHASTA WINS BACK-TO-BACK GVC GAMES

REDDING, Calif. – The Shasta College men's basketball won back-to-back games for the first time this season, taking down Lassen College 76-67 at home on Wednesday and beating College of the Siskiyous 72-64 on the road Saturday.

The Knights have now won three of their past four contests to respond from their nine-game losing skid earlier in the year.

Against Lassen, Shasta led most of the way and 41-34 at half. The Knights had four players in double figures with freshman Michael Plunkitt leading the way with 20 points, 10 assists, seven rebounds and four steals for a double-double. Zach Thompson and Jalen Evans each scored 12 points and Alessandro Guzzon chipped in with 12 points off the bench. The Knights won the turnover battle 19-10.

In Saturday's win, Shasta trailed 31-27 at half and exploded for a 45-point second half for the win. The Knights shot 9 of 20 from 3-point range and had four of five starters score in double figures. Thompson's 20 points and 10 rebounds paced Shasta while sophomore Tanner Guinn scored 13, Plunkitt chipped in with 12 points, eight assists, six steals and five boards, and Brendan Hoag added 12 points. Tanner Bidwell scored all eight points coming off the bench on free throws.

Shasta hosts Feather River College Saturday at 4 p.m., sitting 3-1 in Golden Valley Conference play and 5-14 overall.
