KNIGHTS DROP FINALE TO BUTTE 58-13

REDDING, Calif. – Butte College scored six touchdowns in the second quarter to route Shasta College 58-13 at Memorial Stadium on Saturday in the Knights' season finale.

Shasta trailed 7-0 after the opening period but was outscored 44-0 in the second quarter, allowing three offensive touchdowns, two touchdowns on special teams, two defensive scores and a safety.

Butte quarterback Rieger Sayer threw touchdowns of 28, 33 and 34 yards, Jonah Marcaida returned a punt 52 yards, Ousmane Doumbia had a 38-yard pick-six, Butte recorded a safety and Tre Patterson finished the first quarter scoring with an 83-yard kickoff return to lead 51-0 at the break.

Shasta's two touchdowns came after Butte led 58-0 as Hakeem Lowe caught a 38-yard pass from Eli Wehbey in the third and Wehbey scored on a 1-yard keeper early in the fourth.

Wehbey completed 19 of 34 passes for 207 yards and threw one touchdown and two interceptions. Jahari Johnson caught four passes for 86 yards and Lowe hauled in four passes for 57 yards. Jaylen Thomas and Pete Pennington each caught five passes for 42 and 32 yards, respectively. Eli Cortinas was the leading rusher with 38 yards on eight carries and Jason Abbey rushed twice for 32 yards.

Shasta converted seven third downs in the game but allowed a season-high 58 points.

Defensively, Javon Edwards and Gavin Skerik recorded eight tackles and one for a loss apiece. Dylan Goff had four tackles while Robert Jones, Anthony Fernandez, Drake Granberry and Nainoa Irish each finished with three tackles for the Knights.

Shasta finished with one win for the first time since 2007.

Shasta finished fifth in the state in first downs awarded by penalty with 33, 10th in penalties (67), 12th in penalty yards (649), 16th in passing first downs (105), 18th in defensive touchdowns (2).

NOTABLE STATS

Quarterback Eli Wehbey completed 175 of his 304 passes for 1,957 yards, 10 touchdowns and 16 interceptions on the year. His completions ranked 10th in the state, his attempts were 12th, yards were 16th and yards per game was 17th.

Wehbey finished among the single season leaders in school history with his completions (5th), attempts (7th), yards (15th). For a career, Wehbey's 267 completions ranked sixth, his attempts ranked seventh, yards were eighth and touchdowns were 10th. Out of the 10 players in Knights history to throw at least 400 passes, Wehbey's 60.3 percent completion percentage was a school record, edging Ricky Ray's 60.0 percent.

Jahari Johnson caught 61 passes for 798 yards and four touchdowns. His receptions ranked 19th in the state while his 88.7 yards per game were eighth in the state and his yards were 10th best in California.

Johnson's 61 receptions were six shy of the school record of 67 and tied for third-most in a single season in Knights history with Rashan Williams (2012). His 798 yards ranks 18th in school history and twice Johnson recorded 11 receptions in a single game, which ties for fifth in program history. He currently ranks tied for 13th all-time in receptions for Shasta.
