SHASTA DROPS ROAD CONTEST TO FEATHER RIVER 35-28

QUINCY, Calif. – Two of three Shasta College turnovers came in the second half and the Knights lost 35-28 on the road to host Feather River College Saturday to suffer their sixth straight loss.

Eli Wehbey's 2-yard quarterback run put Shasta head 21-14 early in the third quarter but Feather River scored 36 seconds later to ignite 21 unanswered points to pull away until late in the final period. The Golden Eagles took a 14-point lead early in the fourth but Wehbey was intercepted two plays later and only got one more possession in the game.

Shasta rallied after trailing 14-0 by scoring three straight times through the middle quarters. Eli Cortinas scored on rushing touchdowns of 14 and 1 yard in the second to go into halftime tied at 14. Wehbey's rushing score capped a five-play drive to put Shasta ahead 21-14 on the opening possession of the second half.

However, Feather River answered quickly with a 16-yard pass from Ryan Vaughan to Trace Patterson. Wehbey was intercepted two plays later and Shasta only managed one first down until about 10 minutes to go trailing 35-21.

Jeryll McIntosh put Feather River up 28-21 with an 11-yard touchdown run and found pay dirt again less than three minutes later on a 1-yard run to go up two scores.

Wehbey was intercepted for a third time, giving way to Levi Durrell for the following Knight drive. Durrell marched on a 13-play drive capped by his own 1-yard rushing touchdown with 5:01 remaining to cut the deficit to 7.

But Feather River held on to the ball the remainder of the game, converting a fourth-and-five with a 13-yard pass from Vaughan to Miguel Hernandez to seal it.

Wehbey completed 8 of 15 passes for 151 yards and three interceptions while Durrell was 4 of 5 for 37 yards and added 19 yards on three rushing attempts.
