REDDING, Calif. – Shasta College's baseball team opened Golden Valley Conference play by taking two out of three games over College of the Redwoods, falling 5-1 and winning 14-4, 14-5 in a doubleheader.
Redwoods 5, Shasta 1
The Knights trailed 2-1 until giving up a run in the eighth and two in the ninth. Paul Luebbers took the loss after striking out seven and walking four in four innings. He gave up two runs on three hits. Andrew Shanks struck out seven in five innings of relief. Shasta's Brenden Eberle, Logan Kind, Trenton Hermann, Baron Delameter and Sodai Takanaga each had two hits while Brady Bloss had a double.
Shasta 14, Redwoods 4 (8)
The Knights scored twice in the bottom of the eight on an RBI single from Justin Reeves and Bloss' sac fly. Justin Evasovic struck out six and gave up two runs on eight hits in six innings. Nolan Bently got the win with one earned run on three hits in two innings of relief. Blake Bozzini was 2 for 4 with a double and a run, Garret Finch was 2 for 4 with a double and four RBIs, Marcello Cortopassi was 2 for 4 with a run, Jaden Hunter had a double and Bloss and William Mager each drove in two runs.
Shasta 14, Redwoods 5
Ian Bauer struck out seven and allowed one earned run on six hits in six innings to earn the win. Kind hit a home run, drove in two runs and scored three times, Mager was 2 for 4 with four runs, Cortopassi was 2 for 5 with an RBI and a run, Hermann had a double and an RBI and Eberle was 2 for 4 with a run.
