SHASTA WALKS-OFF VS. FEATHER RIVER

REDDING, Calif. – The Shasta College baseball team beat Feather River 14-13 in 12 innings to split the home doubleheader on Thursday but was swept in Saturday's doubleheader to lose the series for the week.

In Game 1, Shasta trailed 7-0 after the second inning but chipped away to get back in it. The Knights got a pair of four-run rallies in the third and sixth innings highlighted by Jaden Gorge's RBI double, Andrew John's two-run double and Keanu Mizuta RBI double.

When the game went to extra frames, Feather River struck first in the 11th with the international tiebreaker rule to start the inning with a runner on second. But Shasta matched it in the bottom half of the inning with Hayden Hill's RBI double, scoring Jackson Nees. AJ Davies singled with the bases loaded, scoring Hill for the walk-off victory for the Knights.

Shasta went through four pitchers with Gorge getting the victory in relief after striking out three batters and walking one while allowing two unearned runs on two hits in four innings. Gorge also went 2 for 3 with a pair of doubles at the plate.

John went 2 for 4 with two doubles, two RBIs and a run, Hill was 3 for 6 with two doubles, two RBIs and two runs, Nicholas Newton had a double and scored twice.

In the nightcap, Feather River got up early, scoring a run in each of the first five innings including back-to-back three-run frames in the second and third.

Mizuta doubled in a run in the third, Mason Wood drove in Gorge in the fourth and Griffin Williams hit an RBI single in the seventh to highlight the Knights' offense. Gorge, Hill, Williams, Gary Molina, Wood, Mario Hernandez and Payton Jeffries each scored a run.

Dylan Foster lasted two innings as the starter, walking five and allowing eight earned runs on five hits to take the loss. Brady Munson allowed three earned runs in two innings of relief with five walks and Joe Fox struck out two, walked none and gave up one run on two hits in three innings.

SATURDAY

Shasta lost 15-3, giving up 17 hits in the opener. Jared Hummell took the loss, giving up six runs on eight hits in four innings. Wood was 2 for 3 with a double, John was 2 for 4 with a triple and a run, Newton was 2 for 3 with a run, Davies was 1 for 4 with a run and Hill drove in a run. Wood, John, Hill and Newton each stole a base.

In the nightcap, Shasta lost 10-2, putting together three hits while giving up 12. Max Nebel struck out three, walked four and gave up four runs on four hits in 5.1 innings to take the loss. Wood was 1 for 3, John was 1 for 4 with an RBI and Ethan Williams was 1 for 2 with an RBI. Gorge and Giovanni Gonzalez each scored.

Shasta (7-11) hosts College of the Redwoods for a doubleheader Thursday and it will be live streamed for free on ShastaCountySports.com.
