SHASTA LOSES TWO OF THREE TO NO. 19 FEATHER RIVER

REDDING, Calif. – Shasta College's baseball team lost a three-game home Golden Valley Conference series to Feather River College, ranked 19th in the CCCBCA North Poll, over the weekend.

The Knights lost the opener 18-5 on Friday and split Saturday's doubleheader with a 6-4 win followed by a 9-2 loss in the nightcap.

Feather River 18, Shasta 5
The Knights racked up 11 hits in the loss and pulled within two runs after a four-run fifth inning, highlighted by RBI doubles from Mikey Perrine and Luke Staton. But the Golden Eagles blew the game open with an eight-run seventh. Staton was 2 for 4 with two runs, Mason Wood was 2 for 3 with a double and an RBI, and Trevor Schluter and Josh Taylor each had a double. Jordan Akins took the loss, allowing five runs on eight hits in four innings while striking out three and walking two. All five Shasta pitchers gave up runs in the game.

Shasta 6, Feather River 4
Shasta used a five-run fourth inning to get ahead for good to win its second GVC game of the year.  Payton Jeffries, and Keanu Mizuta each had RBI singles and Nick Horsley had a three-run double. Kolby Button got the win, striking out two, walking one and allowing four runs on five hits in 5.2 innings. Zac Billingsley struck out two, walked two across 3.1 scoreless innings of relief. Wood was 2 for 5 with two runs, Derek Ray was 1 for 3 with a double and a run and Jaden Gorge was 1 for 3 with an RBI and a run.

Feather River 9, Shasta 2
The Knights' two runs came on RBI singles in the second and fourth inning from Mizuta and Miguel Mariani. Shasta had six hits with Mizuta as the lone multi-hit game, going 2 for 3 with an RBI and a run. Horsley was 1 for 3 with a double and a run. Cameron Falcon struck out three and walked one while giving up one run on four hits in six innings. Billy Plummer took the loss, allowing five runs on one hit in one inning.

Shasta is 2-4 in GVC play and 4-15 overall. The Knights host No. 6 Sierra College Tuesday in a non-conference game before opening up a three-game GVC series at College of the Siskiyous – going to Siskiyous Friday at 2 p.m. and hosting the Eagles for a doubleheader Saturday at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m.
