KNIGHTS LOSE GVC SERIES TO NO. 5 FEATHER RIVER

QUINCY, Calif. – The Shasta College baseball team was swept by Feather River College in a three game Golden Valley Conference series over the weekend, losing 2-1 and 12-2 on Saturday and 8-2 on Sunday.

The Knights drop to 3-12 in GVC play and 5-23 overall with nine games remaining.

Easton Waterman and Jakob Weiser recorded hits in every game of the series. Waterman was 4 for 12 with two doubles and scored three of the Knights six runs while Weiser was 4 for 9.

Feather River 2, Shasta 1
Daniel Duarte's RBI groundout in the top of the sixth tied it at 1 but the Golden Eagles won on a walk-off single by Austin Youngblood in the bottom of the ninth to win it. Cameron Falcon took the loss, surrendering one earned run on two hits and a walk in 0.1 innings. Max Holtzclaw took the no decision, striking out six and walking two while giving up one unearned run on eight hits in eight innings. Shasta collected four hits with Eric Papas hitting a double and Waterman going 1 for 4 with the lone run.

Feather River 12, Shasta 2 (8)
The Knights gave up six runs in the first two innings and were 10-run ruled in the bottom of the eighth on an RBI single from Jeremy Watland. Weiser had 2 of Shasta's 4 hits, going 2 for 4 with two RBIs, Mason Wood was 1 for 3 with a double and a run and Waterman was 1 for 3 with a walk. Cody Morrison scored the other run for the Knights. Jack Stemm was credited with the loss, giving up six earned runs on seven hits in two innings.

Feather River 8, Shasta 2
Feather River pulled away from a one-run game with a two-run fifth and a three-run seventh. Shasta totaled more hits (9) than in the previous two games combined (8), this time with Waterman leading the way, going 2 for 5 with two doubles and two runs, and Duarte going 2 for 4 with an RBI. Nolan Kenny had an RBI, Cody Emmons was 1 for 4 with a double and Weiser was 1 for 2 with a double. Zac Billingsley got the loss, giving up five runs – three earned – on seven hits in 4.1 innings.
