KNIGHTS DROP GVC OPENER TO NO.7 FEATHER RIVER

REDDING, Calif – Shasta College's baseball team suffered a pair of losses last week to open Golden Valley Conference play, losing to No. 7 Feather River 13-5 and 13-6. The third game was postponed.

The Knights have now given up double-digit runs in three straight games and five times during their nine-game losing skid.

In the opener, Shasta scored four runs in the bottom of the eighth, highlighted by Cody Emmons' two-run double, but it wasn't enough. Emmons was the lone Knight to have a multi-hit game, going 2 for 3 with the two RBIs. Eric Papas was 1 for 4 with an RBI and a run and Mason Wood and Jakob Weiser each had a hit and scored a run.

Cameron Falcon took the loss in the opener, giving up nine earned runs on eight hits in 2.1 innings. Jack Stemm pitched 4.2 scoreless innings of relief, walking two and striking out two.

Feather River had four players with multi-hit games, leading the way with Ty Brogden going 5 for 6 with an RBI and two runs.

The Knights took a 4-2 lead in the third inning thanks to RBI singles from Weiser and Jackson O'Neal, and a two-run single from Emmons. But Shasta gave up five runs in the sixth and seventh frames couldn't recover.

Max Hotlzclaw struck out six and walked one while giving up eight runs on eight hits in 5.2 innings of work. Colby Milligan gave up five runs on six hits in 1.1 relief innings and Jordan Akins finished the final two innings without allowing a hit.

Payton Edwards was 2 for 3 with a double and two runs, Emmons was 2 for 4 with two runs, Weiser was 1 for 3 with an RBI and a run, Mikey Perrine was 1 for 3 with a double and a run and Daniel Duarte was 1 for 4 with a double.

Shasta (2-11) hosts College of the Siskiyous Friday to open a three-game GVC series, going to Siskiyous on Saturday for a doubleheader.
