SHASTA LOSES TWO AT COSUMNES RIVER TO OPEN SEASON

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Shasta College's baseball team opened the 2019 season with a pair of losses at Cosumnes River College over the weekend, falling 8-2 and 3-1.

The Knights managed 15 hits across the two games, including out-hitting Cosumnes River 7-3 in Saturday's two-run defeat.

Cody Morrison led the Knights with four hits in the series, going 4 for 7.

In the opener, Easton Waterman and Cody Emmons each had multi-hit games, going 2 for 4 each with a run. Jakob Weiser and Daniel Duarte both drove in a run and drew a walk.

Max Holtzclaw (0-1) took the loss on the mound for the Knights, allowing five runs on eight hits in five innings while striking out two.

In Saturday's 3-1 loss, Morrison was 3 for 4 with an RBI, Weiser was 2 for 4 and Andrew Durrer was 1 for 4 with a double. Emmons stole a base and was 1 for 3.

Colby Milligan took the loss for Shasta on the mound. The Knights' starter struck out four, walked four and allowed three earned runs on two hits in six innings. Jack Stemm pitched two scoreless innings of relief.

Shasta (0-2) plays at American River College on Thursday.
