REDDING, Calif. – The Shasta College baseball team swept College of the Redwoods 6-0 and 8-4 in a Golden Valley Conference doubleheader on Sunday for its first three-game winning streak of the season.
Brandon Anderson led the Knights at the plate, going 5 for 10 in the series with five RBIs. Shasta's pitching dominated Redwoods with Sam Wells and Kolby Button combining for 14 scoreless innings to earn a victory.
In the opener, Wells struck out five, walked one and allowed five hits across seven innings to move to 5-3 on the season. Max Holtzclaw picked up his second save of the year, fanning three in two hitless innings of relief.
The Knights got runs early from Easton Waterman's RBI double and Hunter Rasica's RBI single. They pulled away with a three-run eighth inning. Anderson was 3 for 5 with a double and a pair of RBIs, Waterman was 2 for 4, Austin Healy was 3 for 4 with a run, Jerred Bloom was 2 for 4 with an RBI and a run, and Eric Spencer scored twice.
In the nightcap, Redwoods scored four runs – two earned – on Shasta starter Anthony Becerra but Button shut down the Corsairs the rest of the way. Button (3-1) struck out three, walked two and allowed one hit in seven frames.
Eight different players scored a run for Shasta. Anderson was 2 for 5 with three RBIs and a stolen base, Marshell Struble was 2 for 4 with three RBIs and a run and Spencer was 2 for 2 with two walks and an RBI.
Shasta (11-14, 6-4 GVC) hosts Butte College Thursday before playing a doubleheader at Butte on Saturday.
