SHASTA OFFENSE COMES ALIVE IN WIN OVER LASSEN

REDDING, Calif. – Shasta College's baseball team split a Golden Valley Conference series against Lassen over the weekend, losing 10-0 on Saturday and winning 10-7 on Sunday. Friday's opening game was postponed due.

Freshman Daniel Duarte led the Knights in hitting across the two games, going 3 for 6 at the plate with an RBI.

Shasta collected only six hits in the opener, two of which came from Duarte. Marshell Struble and Duarte each hit a double. Starting pitcher Sam Wells took the loss after giving up four earned runs on 11 hits in six innings.

Lassen College's Connor Fleharty struck out five and walked one in his complete-game shutout.

The Knights responded the following day with a 10-run outburst, highlighted by a five-run eighth that broke a tie game. Payton Edwards, Brandon Anderson and Jerred Bloom each had an RBI single and Eric Spencer rounded out the frame with a two-run single.

Shasta's Anthony Becerra didn't get a decision after striking out six, walking two and giving up two earned runs in 5.1 innings. Max Holtzclaw picked up the win in relief. The freshman struck out four, walked two and gave up two unearned runs on two hits in 2.2 innings. Kolby Button's scoreless ninth earned him his first save of the year.

Hunter Rasica, Bloom and Spencer each had two hits. Rasica had a double, walked three times and scored three times, Bloom drove in two and scored once, and Spencer drove in three runs. Anderson had an RBI and scored twice, and Edwards, Easton Waterman, Austin Healy and Duarte each had an RBI.

Shasta (9-14, 4-4 GVC) opens a three-game series against College of the Redwoods Friday in Eureka.
