SOUTHERN, BISHOP FINISH FIRST, SECOND AGAINST BUTTE

Southern, who competed in the CCCAA State Championships in 2019 and finished as the top Golden Valley Conference runner in the race, completed Wednesday's 5K race in 21 minutes, 25 seconds. Bishop was second in 21:48.

"Grace and Zoey performed extremely well," said Shasta College cross-country coach Taylor Duncan. "They are both getting primed to put up some great marks in the 400 and 800-meter race during track and field so cross-country is giving them a chance to really build a base during our shortened season."

In the men's race, Shasta's Ethen Collins was the top Knight in fourth, finishing the 5K course in 20:32. He was followed by fifth-place finisher Marcus Francescut (21:16), Aaron Young (ninth, 23:28) and Isiah Wilson (10th, 28:31).

"We were not at full strength and were dealing with some early season injuries but stuck to our plan and came out healthy," Duncan said of the men's team.

Shasta College is back in action at the College of the Redwoods Invite on March 17.
