GARRETT, SOUTHERN COMPETE AT CCCAA STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS

FRESNO, Calif. – Shasta College's Jacob Garrett and Grace Southern both competed in the CCCAA Cross-Country State Championships on Saturday at Woodward Park in Fresno.

Garrett, a freshman from Enterprise High School in Redding, finished 127th overall, completing the 4-mile course in 22 minutes, 49.1 seconds for an average mile of 5:42.3. Garrett was the second Golden Valley Conference finisher in the race.

Southern, a freshman from Middletown, was 109th overall, completing the 3.1-mile course in 21:26.2, averaging a 6:54.9 mile. Southern was the top GVC competitor in the race.

"Both Grace and Jacob capped off a great cross-country season with solid performances at the state meet," said Taylor Duncan, Shasta College's head cross-country coach. "They both have a work ethic that sets them up for success and with cross-country wrapped up they will both start to transition into 800 mode for track where they will be competitive at the state level as well."
