SHASTA TOPS BUTTE IN SEASON FINALE

REDDING, Calif. – The Shasta College volleyball team followed a four-set loss at College of the Redwoods with a four-set home win over Butte College to wrap up the 2023 season.

In the loss to the Redwoods, Shasta fell 25-18, 20-25, 25-18, 25-18. Brooke Vaughan totaled a team-high 12 kills and Emmarae Westphal contributed eight kills apiece. Jacie Clavelle racked up 26 assists and 26 kills while Westphal had 27 digs and Elizabeth Lopez and Vaughan each added 18 digs.

Shasta beat Butte 25-27, 26-24, 26-24, 25-22, recording double-digit kills in each set. Emma Mangini had 18 kills to lead the way for the Knights while Westphal had 14 kills and 25 digs. Vaughan tallied a season-high 30 digs to go with seven kills. Clavelle had 14 assists, 12 digs and five assists, Rose Young dished 32 assists and added 15 digs and Lopez pitched in with 24 digs.

Shasta finished the year 2-8 in Golden Valley Conference play and 6-20 overall.

The Knights finished third in the state in team digs (1,688) and digs per set (18.15) along with finishing eighth in total attacks (3,191).

Westphal's 240 kills lead the team, followed by Mangini (198) and Vaughan (185). Young had 428 assists and Westphal led the team in points with 288. Mangini had 257 points and Vaughan had 244 points.

Defensively, Vaughan's 375 digs were a team-high and Westphal had 317 digs. Mangini had a team-high 46 blocks and Vaughan's 53 services aces led the Knights.
