VAUGHAN, HAMILTON SHINE IN TOUGH WEEK FOR KNIGHTS

REDDING, Calif. –  The Shasta College volleyball team lost all six matches last week, falling twice at the Cosumnes River Classic and being swept in all four games at the Delta Classic.

Sophomore outside hitter Presley Hamilton totaled 67 kills and 68 digs across the six games, averaging double-digits in both stat categories. Freshman Brooke Vaughan averaged 18 digs on the week.

Hamilton enters the week ranked ninth in the state in kills (112) and points (130) while Vaughan is fourth in the state in digs (163).

Cosumnes River Classic

The Knights fell in five sets 25-19, 22-25, 25-22, 22-25, 15-9. Shasta recorded a season-high 51 kills in the match, led by Emmarae Westphal (17 kills) and Hamilton (15 kills). Vaughan and Sanaii Cooper pitched in with seven kills apiece while Macey Bunn and Kiara Yao dished 24 and 17 assists, respectively. Bunn added five aces while Vaughan led the team with 21 digs. Hamilton totaled 19 digs and Sarah Peters had 18 digs in the loss.

Shasta was later swept by Taft 25-19, 25-14, 25-17.  Hamilton slammed a team-best eight kills to go with 10 digs, Bunn registered 12 assists and Peters added 10 digs.

Delta Classic

The Knights fell in the opener to San Joaquin Delta 25-8, 25-10, 25-11, recording 14 kills and 14 hitting errors. Hamilton paced Shasta with nine kills while Yao totaled five assists and two aces. Vaughan racked up a team-high 18 digs.

Shasta lost to West Valley in straight sets 25-18, 25-17, 25-16 with seven of the eight Knights who played recorded a kill. Hamilton had eight kills, Westphal had seven and Cooper and Bunn each contributed three. Bunn and Yao split setting duties with 13 and nine assists, respectively, while Vaughan totaled 20 digs, Hamilton had 15 digs and Peters chipped in with 11 digs.

Shasta fell to Taft for the second time on the week, 26-24, 25-18, 25-23. Hamilton registered a double-double with 16 kills and 10 digs, Westphal had six kills and Yao had 10 assists and 10 digs. Vaughan had a season-high 26 digs in the loss.

The Knights were swept by Solano 25-23, 25-14, 25-13 to end the tournament. Hamilton finished with 11 kills and nine digs, Westphal had five kills and Vaughan ended with 13 digs.

Shasta (2-8) hosts Sacramento City College and De Anza Wednesday at 1 and 5 p.m., respectively.
