KNIGHTS MISS PLAYOFFS AFTER TWO LOSSES

REDDING, Calif. – The Knights' bid for their first playoff appearance in more than a decade fell short.

Last week, Shasta College's women's soccer team lost 3-0 to Lake Tahoe Community College in the final home match of the season, and followed it up with a 3-2 loss on the road to Butte College.

The Knights end the year 12-6-1 overall and 7-4-1 in Golden Valley Conference play. Shasta was one game out of second place to Butte, who earned the No. 12 seed in the CCCAA Northern California Regional playoffs.

Shasta was slotted 16th in NorCal with the CCCAA Power Points but did not make the 18-team tournament.

Against GVC champion Lake Tahoe, which earned the 3-seed, Shasta trailed 1-0 at half. But the Knights gave up a goal in the 59th minute and then one more with two minutes remaining.

Shasta's goalkeeper Alexandra Erickson had five saves and allowed three goals, and Knights sophomore Haley Moebes had the only two shots on goal for the team.

In the loss to Butte, Shasta sophomore Taylor Pinnell assisted sister Rylie Pinnel for the game-tying goal in the 30th minute to go into halftime 1-1. Shasta struck first in the second half when Moebes set up Maite Silva-Bradley in the 60th minute. But the Roadrunners scored the final two goals, adding the winning score in the 70th minute.

All three of the Knights' goalies gave up one goal. Erickson had three saves in 25 minutes, Taylor Pinnell had two saves in 20 minutes, and Kirstin Adams had five saves in 45 minutes.

Moebes finishes the season as the Knights' leader in goals (11) and points (26). Rylie Pinnell was second in goals (10) and points (24), followed by Silva-Bradley, who had nine goals and 21 points.

Alexis Arnold paced the Knights with six assists on the year, and Sierra Brenner, Moebes, Emily Brooks, and Rylie Pinnell each had four assists.

Shasta had seven different players spend time as the goalkeeper this year. Paige Reed had a team-best 37 assists and a .804 save percentage in 13 matches, Erickson had 32 saves in 12 matches, and Adams had 18 saves in eight matches.
