REDDING, Calif. – Depth continues to be a concern for the Shasta College women's basketball team throughout Golden Valley Conference play.
The Knights pushed another one of NorCal's ranked teams to the brink, only to fall short in the final minutes as they lost 82-81 in overtime to the Golden Eagles on sophomore night.
Shasta (3-6 GVC, 14-13) scored four points in the final minute of regulation to force overtime. Keeley Tuggle knocked down an 8-foot floater and sophomore Kilee Hannan made a pair of foul shots with 21 seconds left to tie at 75. In extra time, fatigue set in and led to multiple missed shots and turnovers for the Knights, coach Jerry Brown said.
"We don't really have a bench to go to and the starters got tired," Brown said. "I try to save the timeouts for the fourth quarter but I still couldn't rest them enough. The missed shots at the end was them being tired. I'm proud that they gave me everything they had."
Shasta trailed for all but 10 seconds of the first half until Aubrie Wall caught fire in the third, outscoring Feather River (6-2 GVC, 18-8) on her own in the period, 13-11. Sophomore Julia Hill knocked down a 3 to open the fourth to give the Knights an 11-point lead but the Golden Eagles chipped away despite Hill contributing a rare four-point play midway through the period.
Chanae Hackett and Alli Ramelli made back-to-back 3s to highlight a 10-0 Feather River run inside the final four minutes of the fourth quarter. Tuggle and Hannan got the game to overtime, but the Knights couldn't capitalize.
With Shasta down 2, Jordan Martinez came up with a steal only for Wall to be called for a travel violation with 18 seconds left. Feather River split a pair of free throws and Hannan's trey was off the mark.
Wall gave the Knights an outside chance at the end by getting fouled on a 3-pointer down four with two seconds remaining. She made all three from the line and Shasta never got the ball back.
Wall led all scorers with 22 points as Hill pitched in 18 points, Hannan tallied 17 points, Tuggle recorded her first collegiate double-double with 12 points and 10 assists, and Martinez pitched in with nine points.
