KNIGHTS EARN 14 TOP-SIX FINISHES IN SACRAMENTO

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – The Shasta College track and field team combined for 14 top-six finishes against NAIA programs and fellow junior colleges Friday at the American River College Invite and Distance Carnival in Sacramento.

The Knight women had seven of those top finishes, including the only two event wins from Cassie Young, who captured the high jump with a mark of 4 feet, 11 inches, and the pole vault (10-0). She was also sixth in the javelin (92-4).

Kayla Bickford recorded two of those top finishes, taking third in the 100-meter hurdles in 19.24 seconds, and finishing sixth in the 400 hurdles (1:14.76). She was also 16th in the 100-meter dash (14.01).

Shasta's 4x400 relay team was fifth (4:58.87) and the 4x100 relay team was sixth (52.88).

Claire Walton was second in the shot put (38-8.25) and also finished 15 in the discus (94-0)

In running events, Julie Bradley was ninth in the 3,000 steeplechase (14:21.07), Sabrina Peppel was 14th in the 800 (3:01.54), Natalie Garcia-Gomez was 15th in the 800 (3:02.32) and 16th in the 400 (1:10.36), Kirsten Rolling was 23rd in the 200 (29.80) and 24th in the 100 (14.73), and Lauren Garcia-Gomez was 25th in the 100 (15.22) and 28th in the 200 (33.71),

For cross-event competitors, Madison Barragan was seventh in the long jump (14-1.75) and 14th in the 100 (13.76), and Julia Hill was eighth in both the long jump (13-10.25) and javelin (85-1), 22nd in the 100 (14.62).

MEN

Shasta's men had seven top-six finishes, two from Cody Beaumont, who was second in the triple jump (43-3) and fifth in the long jump (21-1.25). Two more came from Cole Parker, who was third in the javelin with a season-best mark of 162-8 and sixth in the shot put (42-3.25). Other top placers included Erik Valdez's second-place finish in the pole vault (13-3.5), Samuel Grafe was third in the 10,000 (35:37.88), and Justin Hellyer was fourth in the javelin with a mark of 159-5.

For the runners, Chris Rosero was 17th in the 100 (11.25), Kenio Mike was 26th in the 200 (23.40), Caleb Tolbertson was 15th in the 400 hurdles (1:05.71) and 28th in the 400 (54.72), Shasta's 4x100 relay team was eighth (44.45) and the 4x400 relay team was eighth (3:55.29).

Payton Harrell was eighth in the discus (122-0), 10th in the shot put with a season-best distance of 40-6, and 18th in the hammer throw (85-8). Aedan Slack hit season-best marks in the hammer throw (132-1) and shot put (40-5). He was 10th in the hammer throw, 11th in the shot put and 12th in the discus (116-3). Derek Bruner was 16th in the hammer throw (97-3) 20th in the shot put (33-2.5). Peter Savride was 15th in the javelin (120-5) and Ashton Vanzant was 12th in the long jump (20-2.25).
