SHASTA COLLEGE EDGES NO.13 BUTTE 66-62

REDDING, Calif. – Shasta College's men's basketball team avenged its only Golden Valley Conference loss of the season with a 66-62 road victory over No. 13 Butte College on Saturday to extend its winning streak to six games.

The Knights (16-0, 7-1 GVC), who also beat the Lassen College Cougars 69-63 earlier in the week to help them go from unranked to No. 15 in the state with the pair of wins, is in control of their own destiny atop the GVC standings with two games remaining. Shasta ended Butte's eight-game winning streak thanks to the accurate shooting from the free throw line in the game, nailing 20 of 22 from the charity stripe.

Four Knights scored in double figures with sophomore Kellen Gerig leading the way with 17 points and nine rebounds. Sophomore Hunter Johnson scored 16 points to go with six rebounds, sophomore point guard Jordan Spaschak scored 11 points and a team-high five assists, and sophomore Blake Trent scored 11 points.

In the win over Lassen, Johnson recorded a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds, sophomore Zach Lowe scored 13 points and Trent 13 points, Spaschak with 11 points to go with nine rebounds, seven assists, and five steals. David O'Brien scored eight points off the bench.

Shasta can clinch a playoff spot Wednesday with a victory over Feather River in the home finale before wrapping up the regular season Saturday at College of the Redwoods.
