KNIGHTS COMPETE AT SISKIYOUS INVITATIONAL

WEED, Calif. – Shasta College's cross-country team competed Saturday at the College of the Siskiyous Invitational with Grace Southern winning the women's race and Marcus Francescut taking second in the men's race.

Southern won the three-person race, completing the 5K course in a season-best time of 19 minutes, 6.54 seconds. Southern improved her total time by more than a minute from the week before at the Butte Invite and more than 90 seconds better than her season-opening meet at the NorCal Preview in September.

Francescut ran the 4-mile course in 22:51.07, his fastest time of the season as well. He improved by 39 seconds from the week before and nearly four minutes from the season-opening race.

Both runners are gearing up for the William Jessup University race on Saturday in Rocklin where they will be competing against a large field filled with junior college and four-year college runners.

"The athletes are excited about this weekend because of the competitive field of runners they will face," said Shasta cross-country coach Anthony Williams. "We are hoping for strong performances as we look to build momentum for the conference championship and the regional meet on Nov. 5."
