WESTPHAL, VAUGHN LEAD KNIGHTS AT CONSUMNES RIVER, DELTA CLASSIC

REDDING, Calif. – The Shasta College volleyball team lost all six of its matches last week, falling in five sets to both Cosumnes River and Taft before losing to San Joaquin Delta, Sequoias, Butte and Sacramento City at the Delta Classic.

Shasta lost to Cosumnes River 19-25, 25-15, 25-18, 23-25, 15-11. Emmarae Westphal (13 kills) and Brooke Vaughan (11 kills) each totaled double-digit kills to lead the Knights while Emma Mangini had eight kills. Shawnee Church registered 35 assists, Jacie Clavelle had 17 digs and Vaughan had 16 digs. Hannah Martins totaled four service aces.

The Knights lost to Taft in five sets 20-25, 16-25, 25-17, 25-9, 15-9. Shasta had eight players register kills with Westphal leading the way with 10 and Vaughan adding nine. Church contributed 25 assists and seven service aces while Clavelle had 20 digs, Vaughan had 16 digs and Hirsch had 10 digs.

Delta swept Shasta 25-12, 25-10, 25-12. Vaughan had seven kills, Church had 12 assists and Clavelle had nine digs.

Shasta lost 25-19, 22-25, 25-23, 25-20 against Sequoias. Vaughan's 16 kills led the way while Westphal added 13 kills. Rose Young dished 41 assists and Corrine Rickey's 28 kills was a team-high. Westphal added 21 digs, Vaughan had 14 and Hirsch had 11 digs.

Butte edged Shasta in five sets 23-25, 25-17, 16-25, 25-23, 15-13. Both teams finished with 41 kills with Westphal (13 kills) and Mangini (12 kills) turning in team-highs, respectively. Young added 32 assists, Elizabeth Lopez had five service aces and Westphal had a team-high 18 digs.

Against Sacramento City, Shasta lost 15-25, 30-32, 25-18, 15-25. Westphal had 13 kills, Mangini had 10 kills and Vaughan had eight kills. Young finished with 29 assists and 11 digs. Westphal racked up 24 digs, Vaughan had 18 digs and Kaycee Lowe added 12 digs.

Shasta (1-8) plays at the Solano Quad on Wednesday and at Mendocino on Thursday.
