KNIGHTS PICK UP FIRST VICTORIES AT SHASTA CLASSIC

REDDING – Shasta College's volleyball team won both of its matches at home in the Shasta Classic on Friday to pick up its first victories since the 2019 season due to the pandemic.

The Knights beat Yuba College 25-17, 19-25, 25-14, 25-22 and swept Diablo Valley 25-8, 25-17, 25-13.

Three Knights registered double-digit kills against Yuba with freshman Presley Hamilton leading the way with 14. Freshman Sarah Ault had 13 kills to go with 24 assists and sophomore Jennifer Troxclair added 12 kills to go with 18 digs. Sophomore Olivia Sladek pitched in with six kills. Sophomore Aliyah Rosado-Cruz totaled 29 digs and a team-best seven aces while Hamilton had 14 digs. Freshman Jordan Mewhirter dished 19 assists.

In the second match of the Shasta Classic, the Knights recorded a .533 hitting percentage to an easy 25-8 victory in the opening set. Troxclair was the leading hitter in the match with eight kills, followed by Hamilton (7) and Ault (6). Rosado-Cruz registered 20 digs, Wehirter had five aces and Ault totaled 15 assists and eight digs.

Shasta (2-2) opened the year by losing to West Valley 25-9, 25-18, 25-13 before being swept by Fresno 25-22, 25-16, 25-10.

The Knights play Cosumnes River and Taft on Wednesday at the Cosumnes River Triangular in Sacramento.
